Coronavirus Guidance

The interests of our volunteers and the wider community are at the centre of everything we do.

With this in mind, we are putting in place a number of robust measures designed to make health and safety a top priority whilst enabling volunteers to undertake lifts for essential travel and to deliver items that the community need, from prescriptions to food.

This service provides a lifeline for many and we take this responsibility extremely seriously.

Guidance for our clients

Covid19 is partially airborne – it stays in the air for up to 3 hours and has been found to infect people as far as 4 metres away.

The virus can also live on surfaces such as paper and cardboard for up to 24 hours and on plastic and metal for up to three days.

Ensuring ‘contact-free delivery’ to local doorsteps is vital. In order to do this we will:

  • Ask you to choose a safe place for deliveries – these will be noted when the delivery is requested.
  • If a safe place hasn’t been chosen but there is somewhere safe to deliver the parcel, the drivers will leave it there, even when there is someone in the property. A photo will be taken as proof of delivery and a text will be sent to confirm delivery.
  • If there is no safe place the item will be left on the doorstep and the driver will call or text the householder from their car to let them know the items have been delivered.
  • People receiving deliveries should pick up items from safe place or doorstep using gloves, or wash hands immediately after handling the item. All packaging should be disinfected / washed with soap and water or left for 24 hours before handling where possible.

Guidance for our drivers

Covid19 is partially airborne – it stays in the air for up to 3 hours and has been found to infect people as far as 4 meters away. The virus can also live on surfaces such as paper and cardboard for up to 24 hours and on plastic and metal for up to three days.

We will provide you with disposable gloves and a mask and goggles wherever possible.
Supply is limited however – if you are able to use your own safety equipment this will help to increase the amount we of deliveries we can undertake.

If needed we can reimburse you for the purchase of masks and hand gel – please check with Morag before purchase.

It is recommended that masks are worn for all journeys as this will minimise risk for all concerned. Masks can be re-used but must be carefully placed in a plastic bag and stored for three days before re-use.

Clean gloves must be worn when picking up and dropping off deliveries. Gloves should be put on just before picking up delivery and ideally washed with hand gel before drop off.

Contact between drivers and pharmacy / food suppliers / passengers must be minimal.

Contact between drivers and householders receiving items must be avoided.

Items should be left in a safe place or on the doorstep and a text or call made to confirm that the item is there. A leaflet for the client will be provided to ensure that all items they receive are disinfected / washed in soap and water before use.

We will organise all lifts and associated admin via email, website and phone to minimise face to face contact

If you have been in contact with someone with a suspected case of covid-19, or have any of the symptoms yourself, please let us know immediately and do not undertake any lifts or deliveries.
